How to Clean a Gunky Iron

I have pictures of this process, but I don't know where they went.

Step 1: Make your iron dirty.

Step 2: Mix 1 part vinegar to 1 part water. Put it in a spray bottle. Or not.

Step 3: Drench a paper towel with the mixture and slap it onto the iron (The flat side, duh). Put the iron on a folded towel to catch spills. Save the vinegar/water mixture for recipe I'm going to post tomorrow. Just kidding. Save it for step 6.

Step 4: Stand there and stare at it for about 30 seconds, peel back the paper towel to see if it worked, call me stupid and a liar, put the paper towel back and go back to the computer to follow my instructions.

Step 5: Set timer for 5 minutes.

Step 6: Re-drench same paper towel in vinegar mixture. If it's in a spray bottle, spray the paper towel while it's on the iron. Repeat Steps 5 & 6 for 30 minutes. Basically, keep the paper towel wet.

Step 7: Using a wrung out wet sponge, Place 1 drop of dawn dish soap on the scrubber side (I prefer the blue sponge, since it's not as rough as the green one).

Step 8: LIGHTLY (and I stress, lightly) scrub the gunk off. VOILA!

If this didn't work, your iron is pretty much uncleanable and needs to be replaced. ORRRRRRR follow the steps again, using full-strength vinegar. Your house will smell AWESOME!
